Structured cabling provides the physical network infrastructure that connects devices throughout your home. Instead of running random cables for each device, structured cabling creates a centralised and organised network system where all cables run back to a central hub or network cabinet, allow devices like your:

For homeowners struggling with slow WiFi and unreliable connections from their growing number of connected devices, structured cabling offers:

  • Faster and more reliable connections than WiFi alone
  • Lower latency for gaming, video calls and streaming
  • Reduced WiFi congestion by hardwiring high-bandwidth devices
  • Future-ready infrastructure for adding additional smart home tech devices
  • Clean and organised network layout

At AAV Smart Homes, we’ve supported homeowners across Staffordshire and the West Midlands with our structured cabling services.

The first step is identifying where wired connections will provide the most benefit. Modern homes often contain multiple connected systems that rely on stable networking, such as smart TVs, streaming devices, home offices and security systems.

We typically consider:

  • Rooms where media devices or gaming consoles will be used
  • Areas requiring reliable connections for home working
  • Locations where WiFi access points may improve wireless coverage
  • Smart home systems such as CCTV or automation hubs

This ensures the structured cabling layout will support both your current devices and any future tech added later.

Designing the Network Infrastructure

Once requirements are clear, we design a structured cabling layout that distributes ethernet connections throughout key rooms in the property. All cables run back to a central network hub or cabinet (depending on what you prefer), keeping the infrastructure organised and allowing additional connections to be added easily.

Professional Structured Cabling Installation

Our engineers install high-quality Cat6 (or Cat7 if requested) structured data cabling, routing cables discreetly through loft spaces, wall cavities and floor voids. Each cable run is terminated into ethernet outlets or patch panels and tested to ensure reliable network performance across the home.

Smart homes rely on stable network connections to keep everything running smoothly. As more connected devices are added around the home, relying entirely on WiFi can lead to interference and inconsistent performance, which means devices not working as intended, or at all. Structured cabling provides a reliable wired backbone that supports home automation systems such as:

  • Whole-home WiFi systems using wired access points
  • Multi-room audio and video
  • CCTV and security cameras
  • Smart lighting and home automation systems
  • Home offices, gaming setups and media devices

Installing ethernet connections throughout your home lets key devices connect directly to the network, improving reliability and reducing WiFi congestion, while also preparing your home for future smart technology you want to add.

For most residential installations, Cat6 ethernet will provide the best balance of performance and cost. Cat7 installations are available, but for the majority of homes, Cat6 structured cabling will deliver more than enough performance for streaming, gaming, smart home automation, high-speed broadband and whatever else.
